Valencia CF and VAR in 2019/20

There have been several incidents this season in which VAR decisions have gone against Valencia CF

VAR interventions this season:

LALIGA:

Matchday 6. Valencia CF – Getafe CF. Possible handball by Cucurella inside the box, on the goal-line. VAR reviews it without the referee going to the monitor, or changing his initial decision.

Matchday 9. Atlético – Valencia CF. Red card for Kang In for a tackle from behind, after consulting VAR. The referee had initially shown a yellow.  

Matchday 10. Osasuna – Valencia CF. Rodrigo sent off for “hitting an opponent in the head with his arm, using excessive force, in a challenge for the ball.” The VAR monitor was not consulted by the referee. Rodrigo received a one-game ban.

Matchday 13. Valencia CF – Granada CF. VAR disallows a Parejo goal due to offside against Maxi Gómez. He was not interfering in play, but was adjudged to have impeded the vision of the goalkeeper.  

Matchday 15. Valencia CF – Villarreal CF. Rodrigo has a goal disallowed for supposedly hitting his shoulder. The action is reviewed without a clear image.

Matchday 16. Levante UD – Valencia CF. Penalty given against Parejo on the edge of the area.

Matchday 19. Valencia CF – SD Eibar. VAR upholds the referee’s decision and disallows a Maxi Gomez goal for offside. VAR is used twice to look at possible penalties in Valencia CF’s favour. None were given.  

Matchday 21. Valencia CF – FC Barcelona. After consulting VAR, the referee rules out a Gabriel Paulista goal for a supposed foul.

Matchday 27. Deportivo Alavés – Valencia CF. VAR reviews a possible penalty by Pacheco on Cheryshev, but it is not given.

Matchday 29. Real Madrid – Valencia CF. VAR disallows a Rodrigo goal for offside against Maxi Gomez.

COPA DEL REY:

Quarter finals vs Granada CF. VAR rules out a Rodrigo goal that had previously been given. In the final moments, a penalty is given for handball against Jaume Costa.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE:

Chelsea FC – Valencia CF. After consulting the monitor, the referee gives an 87th minute penalty against Wass for handball.

Valencia CF – Chelsea FC. VAR awards a goal for Pulisic that the referee had previously ruled out for offside.
